English: The 'Highclere Holly' hybrid variety, Ilex × altaclerensis.
  • Seen at Spier's Old School Grounds, Beith, North Ayrshire, Scotland.
  • The hybrid holly Ilex × altaclerensis (Highclere Holly) was developed at Highclere Castle in about 1835, by hybridising the Madeiran Ilex perado (grown in a greenhouse) with the local native Ilex aquifolium.
