About

The Jerusalem Bible first appeared in 1966 and was the work of a team of scholars using the resources of the Frnch Biblical School in Jerusalem. It was hailed as a masterpiece of textual accuracy and modern style, which kept as close as possible to the meaning of the ancient texts from which it had been translated. The literary quality of this version is admirable - among the English stylists who worked with the translators was J.R.R. Tolkein. The Jerusalem Bible translation is the most widely used in the New Order English Mass. The compact Popular Edition has short footnotes explaining key details and is an excellent resource for the general reader.
