English: Blaise Pascal (1623–1662) studying the cycloid, engraved on the tablet he is holding in his left hand; the scattered papers at his feet are his Pensées, the open book his Lettres provinciales. Exhibited at the Salon of 1785; the plaster model was exhibited at the Salon of 1781.
Français : Blaise Pascal étudiant la cycloïde ; à ses pieds, à gauche, les feuillets épars des Pensées, à droite, le livre ouvert des Lettres provinciales. Présenté au Salon de 1785 ; le modèle en plâtre vaiat été présenté à celui de 1781.
