Summary
Description |
English: 12th century stone sculpture of God Vishnu (Preserver of the Universe) flanked to the left by his sister Saraswati (the patron Goddess of Knowledge and the Arts). To the right is Vishnu's consort Sri Devi or Lakshmi (Goddess of Prosperity). The upper right and left of Vishnu's hands hold the weapons with which he strikes down his enemies (club and discus). The lower left holds a conch shell war trumpet, the sound of which terrorizes his enemies and the open lower right bears a lotus bud, a symbol of the universal life force and his role as the Preserver. Picture taken at the "Cantor Arts Centre" at Stanford University.
