Dialysis Technology
Overview
Dialysis technology programs prepare people to help patients with severe kidney problems. This program is sometimes called renal technology.Dialysis technology programs include topics such as:
- Hemodialysis treatment administration
- Dialysis care plans
- Dialysis medicines
- Patient assessment
- Anatomy and physiology
- Local anesthesia administration
- Recordkeeping
Some dialysis technician programs are offered as part of a medical assistant program.
Schools
Very few two-year schools offer associate degree programs in dialysis technology. An associate degree program usually takes two years of full-time study.
Many career and technical schools we well as several community colleges offer certificate programs in dialysis technology. A certificate program usually takes a year of full-time study.
