How the Body Responds to Stress
The stress response
The sympathetic nervous system regulates the stress response via the hypothalamus.
The hypothalamus produces Corticotropin Releasing Hormone (CRH), which activates Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) production in the Anterior Pituitary, which activates Cortisol production in the Adrenal Cortex. The Cortisol influences negative feedback to the Hypothalamus and the Anterior Pituitary.
