The three-year program provides 6,400 hours of paid on-the-job training. On-the-job training starts at $25.58 an hour with a full benefit package for health and welfare, and retirement. Raises occur every six months until $42.63 an hour journey-level scale is achieved. Students also receive 160 hours of supplemental classroom instruction each year. Students learn about all aspects of concrete materials, finishes, placement, and repair work, including decorative concrete and overlays, epoxy injection, and fiber wraps.

Students are required to purchase hand tools and protective work boots and clothes. Apprentices are also required to pay the initiation fees and dues to join Cement Masons and Plasterers Local 528.

Apprenticeship applicants must be 18 years of age or older and attend a hands-on selection procedure. A no-cost, 80-hour pre-job course is required for those accepted into the apprenticeship program, which must be taken before the apprenticeship begins. Transfer students from other cement mason apprenticeships in the US and Canada are accepted.
