Training and instruction is six weeks in length. All apprentices must receive a minimum of 3,000 hours paid on-the-job training. 144 hours of supplemental classroom instruction is also required.

The number of apprentices accepted is based upon the needs of industry as projected from trends. Average enrollment per class is four to six students and average annual enrollment is eight to 12 students.
Costs
Program costs
No up front tuition required. Students sign a scholarship loan agreement in the amount of $6,000. On-the-job training hours are used to eliminate the debt. Other costs include test and license fees with the Department of Licensing and HazMat background check.

Other admissions information
Apprenticeship applicants must be at least 21 years of age and must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records. Applicants must obtain or have a current Department of Transportation physical card by meeting the physical qualifications stated in Subpart E of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations 391.41; submit a Department of Motor Vehicles report; and have a valid Washington State driver's license with the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with all the endorsements required by the Department of Motor Vehicles (at the applicant's expense).
