Before I begin, it good to know that, this plane was developed by this French mathematician a long time ago.

Now, let's take a look. This number line is the x-axis. Also known as horizontal axis.
The number line over here is the y-axis. Also known as vertical axis. Okay, now look at the center.

This point is called the point of origin. If you look carefully, the x-axis and y-axis divide the plane into 4 parts.

Each part is called a quadrant. Also, these  parts are labeled, Quadrant 1, Quadrant 2, Quadrant 3 and Quadrant 4 respectively.
